Not sure which division to sign up for?

Far Westerns used to have Open and Club divisions.

Open gave 3 open bids and was very, very strong competition – approximately only 10% of the teams that play in the Far Western enter this division.
Club gave out a National and an American bid – 90% of the teams at FW participated in this division.

Many years ago, some of the qualifiers started splitting the club division into a National Division and an American Division. Each division had one bid and the teams picked which one they wanted to try for.

Since that was the case for most of the tournaments, USAV decided to make it the norm for all qualifiers. And, in addition to this they changed the National Bid given at Qualifiers to be called a USA bid. American remained the same.

So, now you have Open, USA and American. Open gets 3 bids, USA gets one bid and American gets one bid. In theory, Open teams should be better than USA teams and USA teams should be better than American teams – but since the clubs decide where they will play, this is not law.

Now, in addition to these divisions, we have decided to add a non-bid awarding division called the No Dinx Division. This allows teams that have waivered players, etc and may not have the same requirements as teams playing in the bid awarding divisions which allows more teams the opportunity to experience the Far Western. It also means that the No Dinx Division does not have as strict format and tie breaking guidelines making it a an opportunity for teams to experience Far Westerns without all the requirements that may be limiting.

    Coolers & Food

No coolers or outside food are allowed in the Reno Sparks Convention Center or Reno Event Center. However, there are many, many tables setup in front of convention center where teams may setup their ‘camp’ and enjoy their lunch.

This is a site requirement so please pass this information on to your team parents who are traveling to the tournament.

Security will be posted at the entrance of the convention center to ensure that this convention center requirement is upheld.

    Site Rules

If you have any questions regarding the site that your team has been assigned to, do not contact the school/site directly. Inundating sites with phone calls about tournaments strains our relationships with the facility and may cause the site to stop hosting tournaments. If you have a question about a school/site, you need to email vball@ncva.com

The site rules for ALL NCVA facilities are:

    • NO ALCOHOL is permitted on the premises of any facility – This includes the parking lot, quads/grass areas, gym, etc.
    • No outside food or beverages inside the facility. Water will be allowed when carried individually, not in a cooler.
    • No ice chests, coolers, soft sided coolers, small coolers or large coolers will be allowed inside.
    • No broken folding chairs, tents, trash left outside the gym or parking lots.
    • Security Guards will be present at all convention centers to enforce site rules
    • Devices, of any kind, that heat food that require them to be plugged in and/or use a flame, of any kind, are not permitted on the premises of any facility.

Penalties for violating these rules are:

    • Tournament Director will impose 13 Point Penalty. The 13 Point Penalty means that in the team’s next set, the score will begin at 0-13, with 13 points automatically awarded to the opposing team.
    • Receive $200 fine from the NCVA.
    • Receive last place finish and points, if applicable.
    • Teams may be asked to leave the tournament.

All Sites: The NCVA would like to remind you to make sure you always lock your cars, keep your expensive items out of plain view and keep your personal items within your sight at each facility at all times.

Additional rules by site can be found on our Site Rules page

    What is University Athlete?

University Athlete is the premier communication tool connecting collegiate coaches and athletes in Girl’s Volleyball. We are NOT a recruiting service; we don’t sell athletes to colleges; therefore, the coaches trust us and use our services. UA combines the convenience of an online database with the efficiency of Palm© software to assist coaches’ recruiting efforts at tournaments. At a tournament, recruiters can instantly find any player, identify new players, evaluate and take notes without losing valuable time needed to watch courts. More than 750 college coaches utilize University Athlete’s services and that number is growing. With the booming business of collegiate athletics upon us, UA has created a system that efficiently and effectively connects the coaches with the players in a timely and secure environment. Athletes now have the tools at hand to get the correct information into the hands of the recruiters at NO COST.
